Jalee Fusilier, Miss Hawaii 2011, reigned over the other 52 contestants Saturday night and took the Best in Swimsuit category in the Miss America pageant.

Is it any wonder?  She is 1) from Hawaii, 2) gorgeous in a bikini, and 3) from Hawaii!

Co-Host Chris Harrison informs us that at the Miss America Pageant we celebrate “health, fitness, self confidence, and — can I just say it? — looking good in a really tiny swimsuit.”

Jalee did not disappoint.

For the 90th anniversary of the annual contest, she stood out head and shoulders in a smouldering black bikini by Swim n’ Sport and towering nude patent leather peep-toe heels.

For a wahine from Haleiwa it was as natural for Jalee to be seen strutting in a bikini as for the other girls to be wearing jeans.

Relaxed, toned and beaming her 1000 kilowatt smile, Jalee was the picture of natural beauty–a true island beachgirl!

Here comes a Hawaiian beachgirl secret.  Oil.  Enough said.

If you have not discovered or stockpiled an arsenal of these Polynesian oils, then get going!

Kukui nut oil, coconut oil and monoi (coconut oil and tiare (jasmine)-you just gotta have them all.

Use them in the shower, in the bath, on dry skin, on your hands and feet, and in your hair. Kind and gentle to the most delicate of skins, even babies soak the stuff up.

Known for their healing and soothing powers as well as super-hydrating quality, sunburn, skin irriations, scrapes and even pesky acne are no match for their effects.

Monoi  Tiare Tahiti make a ‘cosmetic oil consisting of pure coconut oil and the fragrance of tiare, the Tahitian Gardenia. The product is a refinement of an ancient Polynesian beauty secret and has been manufactured commercially since 1942. Centuries ago the people of Polynesia discovered that pure coconut oil is an essential secret for beautiful skin and hair. Coconut oil is a natural replacement for your body’s skin and hair oils. The coconut oil used in Monoi Tiare Tahiti is so highly refined that it is quickly absorbed by your skin. ‘

Oils of Aloha make the best kukui–with or without a scent. A little dose will go a long way so go easy on the squeeze. Even Kikidoll’s pupster gets some on his paws or when he tangles with a sea urchin.

Keep your skin moisturized, your hair conditioned and your cuticles at bay. Slather any or a combo of these oils on while still damp from swimming or bathing and you will never see flakey skin again.

Add to those oils the divine fragrances of gardenia, pikake or plumeria and paradise is just a sensory moment away.

Worst thing about first jumping out of bed in the morning? That cold shower.

Best thing about that cold shower?

The tingly, bracing, lovely wafting smell of the soap mixed up in the now warming water.

Searching the world over for just the right combo of girly, squeaky clean–not too mannish, not too spicey, not ready to tackle, punch out or jump over tall buildings– not like Mentoes, not like food (sorry vanilla and lemon) or drawing fruit flies to a fruit bowl–it’s just gotta be floral based. Simple.

But wait– flowers are not going to be enough! It has to have that dry, aldehydic powdery layer–you know, like baby powder. That evens out any risk of sickly sweetness that some bouquets can bring.

Enter ‘Amazing Grace‘ by Philosophy. This is the soap of girl dreams, all pink and reminiscent of clean sheets at summer camp lights out.

If it’s cleaner than clean you need, then try out Clean’s line of  ‘Lather’–body lotion and shower gel to match. This one puts baby soaps to bed.

Perlier of Milan makes ‘Pink Peony’, another olfactory knock-out that evokes fragrances that your grandmother fancied. Cutting gardens and wicker chairs come to mind.

For lesser pockets, some of the white tea based concoctions at the superstore do the trick–not too overpowering and not too strong, with no after effects.

Just like a good, hot shower should be.

Kikidoll readers all know she cannot turn a good coconut down, especially when it comes delivered in Big City style.  To Go.

Olivia Giacobetti of Honore des Pres perfumes comes knocking with her all organic range of scents as an homage to her recent relocation from Paris to New York.  Less a story of scents in the the city, the trio of Love NY perfumes–Love Coco, Vamp a NY and I Love les  Carrottes– is more a joyous loved-up affair with her new digs.

Prior to her move, Olivia launched  Honore des Pres after developing fragrances for Diptyque and L’Artisan Parfumeur.

Packaged in her eponymous rounded-edge atomizer bottle, that is then tucked into a plastic coffee cup, then placed in a brown paper bag, buying Love Coco is better than being first up at Starbies for that morning latte.

After you are hit with the raw coconut, the milky smoothness settles in like cream with an undertow of vanilla and a sneak of anis. But wait–there’ a shot of coriander to jizz it all up into a near-fizzy frothiness.

Sit back in your cubicle, put those perfectly pedicured feet up on the desk and sip away.  In a NY minute, visions of yourself in a bikini in a hammock by the beach and palms fronds dangling overhead will be yours. No trace of Hawaiian Tropic or a morning-after Pina Colada, Love Coco comes sashaying with surprising 8 + hour lasting power and more subtlety than a summer island breeze.

Launched in Europe, first in Milan at Excense and then at Colette and Bon Marche in Paris, the trio of goodies to go are now available at Space NK UK, and will be finally winging their way over the pond stateside in the autumn.  If you need that hit of a tropical romance earlier, you know where to go for take-out.

About Kikidoll
Kikidoll is the eternal beachgirl, and takes her inspiration from the awesome elegance and pristine simplicity of beaches and waves everywhere. She muses on islands, oceans, beaches, shells, flowers, tropical living, travel, design and style, swimming, surfing, her beloved Hawaii nei, the spirit of aloha, iconic symbols and of course the fleeting ‘endless summer’. Most importantly, she frets over what to wear at the beach!
