In its first year, the luxury Hawaiian designer of women’s swimwear Kikidoll has produced two collections–’Signature Shell’ 2010 and ‘Honolulu Honi’ 2011 plus a capsule Cruise and Resort collection, ‘Bikini in a Bottle’.

Now the eternal beach girl is no longer alone waiting to catch a wave in her Hawaiian printed bikini.

Kikidoll is launching her new men’s surf and swim wear line ‘Kanaka’ at the world’s largest board sport show next week, Surf Expo 10-12 September in Orlando, Florida, where the power brokers and big players in the world of water sports discover whazzup new in the water.

Taking her eponymous Pacific themed and Hawaiian-inspired prints, Kikidoll has manned these prints and colors up an edgier notch for a fiercer take on the most powerful sport in the world, surfing.  Taking the Tiki god Ku as its logo motif, Kanaka has surf gear for the Big Kahuna.

The Kanaka ‘Kohana’ (Hawaiian for naked) men’s board short is just that.  Bare. Slim to the body, no drag, no bag– this unfussy ‘Hawaiian cut’ is truly sleek as a shark cutting through the water. Made of 100% poly psycho-suede and imprinted with Kiki’s tough tribal tattoo prints and Tiki god logo motifs, these boardies have only a clip inside for keys. Who needs to carry a pocket full of water when you are ripping, riding or shredding?

Classic grommet laced and dipped waist, shorter on the leg for maximum movement with a Velcro closure, Kanaka’s Kohana board shorts fit like second skin and are available in four vibrant island colorways.

To top off the Kohana, Kanaka goes twinsies with Kikidoll’s take on unisex silky spandex rash guards in bold tropical colors. These rashies are distinguished by their Hawaiian print panels designed by Kiki with contrast overlocked stitching. Again, mindful of the fit and utility, they are cut close and cropped to the body to eliminate water drag.

Kanaka Kohana board shorts (30-38) and rash guards (S, M, L and XL)  are available for wholesale delivery 4-6 weeks from order placement, as well as on-line retail at www.kanakasurf.com beginning October 2010.

The August new moon is today 8/10 at 03.08 am.
Astrowhizzes tell us that the best time to watch the night sky is new moon–a full moon washes out the dimmer skies. Astronomers call it a “new moon” because shortly after the Moon is completely shadowed, a thin crescent peeks out from one side. This is the beginning of the Moon’s rise to brightness over the next two weeks. The exact time this occurs depends on your geography on Earth, but it will always occur in the Western horizon between sunset and moonset.
A new moon occurs when the Earth, Sun and Moon are lined up so that the Moon is directly in between the Earth and the Sun. From this perspective, the side of the Moon covered in sunlight is turned away from the Earth, and the face we see is in shadow. The Moon takes approximately 29 days to complete the cycle from new moon to full moon and then back to new moon again. During a new moon, the Moon is in conjunction with the Sun, as seen from Earth.

Sometimes called a Harvest Moon the new moon in August is usually a harbinger of the end of summer and the oncoming autumn. Enjoy this fleeting ‘marvelous night for a moondance!’

Watch out for the Full moon 24 August 17.05 pm.

Surf’s Up, and the winner is…

Zoe Reid of Coventry, England is the winner of a Kikidoll signature printed Aqua Shell string bikini following the contest hosted  in SurfGirl magazine asking for best memories of Hawaii.

Zoe penned this winning entry:

When I think of Hawaii, I think of, beauty, adventure and surfing! I think of beautiful sun kissed people, Gathered on the beach dancing to the sound of a ukele, hibiscus flowers, amazing surf and of amazing endless sunsets with a congregation of siloeted surfers all gathered together to catch some perfect waves. I also think that Hawii of a tranquil place of natures beauty that calms your thaughts clears your mind, be it through surfing or through some other way.

It could not be said better Zoe! Congratulations and look for your parcel in the Royal Mail. And big mahalo and cheers to SurfGirl for promoting this charming homage to our beautiful islands. Aloha!

There is no back beat louder than those heard in Miami.

BOOM!  and the lights are flashing and the music pulsating , and the swim models, tanned and toned and young and lovely as gazelles, are undulating down the catwalk.

Kikidoll’s Number 189 is sashaying in a nano, and her bikini, printed and ruched and draw-stringed in aquas and corals with angelfish in bubbles and seaweed wisps, has passed by. Pose, give face, hip strut, attitude, pivot, snap and swish–it’s over.

Ruffling through the swag bags Kiki found side-less undies (gosh!), hair ties and a brolly.  Out into the Miami night, cocktails and sunsets awaited.  South Beach was literally loaded with the Beautiful People everywhere.

Somewhere in the SoBe night, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit supermodels were swilling calorie-less drinks while fash mag editors stashed more goodies from the shows.  There was more than one Raleigh Hotel signature bath robe seen going walkies. Designers were holed up in private salons and hotel rooms showing their wares off-piste (And pissing off SAF no doubt!) Famous duos were splitting up and some re-joining.  Even a movie star or two popped in for a sneak peek a la FROW action.

And the Swim Week skinny? Girlie is bouncing back big time, and boudoir lingerie is creeping in with lace and bows and frills. Goth and heavy metal, stand down. It’a all about the booty and the best  beach bums in the world were here to prove it.

Miami, me encanta!

About Kikidoll
Kikidoll is the eternal beachgirl, and takes her inspiration from the awesome elegance and pristine simplicity of beaches and waves everywhere. She muses on islands, oceans, beaches, shells, flowers, tropical living, travel, design and style, swimming, surfing, her beloved Hawaii nei, the spirit of aloha, iconic symbols and of course the fleeting ‘endless summer’. Most importantly, she frets over what to wear at the beach!
