In its first year, the luxury Hawaiian designer of women’s swimwear Kikidoll has produced two collections–’Signature Shell’ 2010 and ‘Honolulu Honi’ 2011 plus a capsule Cruise and Resort collection, ‘Bikini in a Bottle’.

Now the eternal beach girl is no longer alone waiting to catch a wave in her Hawaiian printed bikini.

Kikidoll is launching her new men’s surf and swim wear line ‘Kanaka’ at the world’s largest board sport show next week, Surf Expo 10-12 September in Orlando, Florida, where the power brokers and big players in the world of water sports discover whazzup new in the water.

Taking her eponymous Pacific themed and Hawaiian-inspired prints, Kikidoll has manned these prints and colors up an edgier notch for a fiercer take on the most powerful sport in the world, surfing.  Taking the Tiki god Ku as its logo motif, Kanaka has surf gear for the Big Kahuna.

The Kanaka ‘Kohana’ (Hawaiian for naked) men’s board short is just that.  Bare. Slim to the body, no drag, no bag– this unfussy ‘Hawaiian cut’ is truly sleek as a shark cutting through the water. Made of 100% poly psycho-suede and imprinted with Kiki’s tough tribal tattoo prints and Tiki god logo motifs, these boardies have only a clip inside for keys. Who needs to carry a pocket full of water when you are ripping, riding or shredding?

Classic grommet laced and dipped waist, shorter on the leg for maximum movement with a Velcro closure, Kanaka’s Kohana board shorts fit like second skin and are available in four vibrant island colorways.

To top off the Kohana, Kanaka goes twinsies with Kikidoll’s take on unisex silky spandex rash guards in bold tropical colors. These rashies are distinguished by their Hawaiian print panels designed by Kiki with contrast overlocked stitching. Again, mindful of the fit and utility, they are cut close and cropped to the body to eliminate water drag.

Kanaka Kohana board shorts (30-38) and rash guards (S, M, L and XL)  are available for wholesale delivery 4-6 weeks from order placement, as well as on-line retail at www.kanakasurf.com beginning October 2010.

Kikidoll’s Bikini In A Bottle

Whats Kikidoll’s bikini in a bottle all about ?

Kikidoll is preparing to ‘launch’ her capsule Cruise Collection of swimwear for 2010-2011–literally–drifting towards a beach near you sometime this autumn.

Filling 21 bio-degradable sea-worthy bottles each with her newest 21 Hawaiian-inspired printed string bikinis that she just previewed at Miami Swim Week for next year, Kiki is sealing them up, ready for a  voyage of a lifetime.

Releasing them from her native Waikiki Beach, Honolulu next month, Kiki is relying on the very same equatorial currents that guided the Pacific peoples of the Marchesas and Tahiti to the islands of Hawaii several thousands of years ago by canoe and paddle.

It is estimated that each bikini in a bottle, will hit land between 60 and 90 days, using the current map, above, as a guide. Watch this space for updates and photos of the launch and any sightings when they hit landfall. Photos are invited from any lucky beachcombers!

The Southern currents will push the teeny bikinis in a bottle  towards the Pacific rim basin–Australasia and Pacific islands. Northern currents will take the bottles towards the Americas, north, south, Latin and central. The West wind drift will push them towards Europe and the Pacific drift will send some aloha to Canada.

The rule of finders-keepers applies, so get out there in time to scoop up a Kikidoll bikini amongst the shells and treasures of the ocean!

In the distance you see the twinkly glimmer of a hundred fairy lights cresting over the sand at the ocean’s edge.

What is more magical than candlelight for a beachside evening of cocktails or dinner for any special occasion?

At a Pacific rim wedding, place scented wax-filled shells on either side of the sandy paths to light the way for guests to water’s edge.  Kikidoll collects and cleans the shells, then buys gallon jugs of unscented candle wax at craft stores and scents the melted mixture with coconut and jasmine essential oils for candles. Individual wicks, pre-cut, can be laid into each shell before pouring the mixture in, assembly-line fashion.

Last time Kikidoll made these beachy lights she used glimmery sand and dipped each shell’s edge in hot glue, then coated them with the shimmery gritty mixture for texture and gleam.  Sea shells interspersed with coconut half shells make a delightful and original tropical touch.

For bigger impact take plain brown kraft paper bags and pierce them with simple cut-outs of starbursts, stars and comets.  Fill each bag two-thirds with sand and inside each bag place a small foil-lined votive, lit.  Luminarias glow the longer they are lit for some unknown reason, and they are so effective lining a road or trail on both sides.

To round out the illuminations, fill larger shells for tabletop decoration. These can be nestled in that glimmery sand piled on to the table and surrounded with fresh cut native flowers and greenery.

Nothing could be simpler or more economic, or add that natural touch to an otherwise elegant affair.

About Kikidoll
Kikidoll is the eternal beachgirl, and takes her inspiration from the awesome elegance and pristine simplicity of beaches and waves everywhere. She muses on islands, oceans, beaches, shells, flowers, tropical living, travel, design and style, swimming, surfing, her beloved Hawaii nei, the spirit of aloha, iconic symbols and of course the fleeting ‘endless summer’. Most importantly, she frets over what to wear at the beach!
