Happy day for Kikidoll that Alberta has designed a line of her gorgeous island-inspired Lilliana Design necklaces and earrings for Kikidoll’s 2011 swimwear collection.

Also from Honolulu, Alberta and Kiki first met at a hula competition!  Kiki fell in love with Alberta’s combinations of pearls and shells, not to mention the amazing handmade leis and kupe’e that Alberta also wove for the dancers.  Alberta’s design savvy and shared love for Hawaii nei drew them together and an association was born.

Each piece of Lilliana Design is hand-crafted by Alberta, and she uses the ocean and island beauty as her guide. For Kikidoll’s collection she paired mother of pearl shells in vivid pinks  and sea-worthy aquas, fanned out into hibiscus blossoms on harsher steel-tipped black rubber chokers to ratchet up the pretty with an edgy twist.  Strands of bronzey brown beads laced with leopard-spotted cowrie beads and shells added some woodsy tones to the pastel color palette.  Whole shells hanging from thin wires dangle as earrings.  Evan a bikini belt with shells and coral is making an appearance for Kikidoll’s ‘Honolulu Honi’ 2011 collection.

Kiki’s favorite piece is the pearl and half-conch shell necklace that she chose for her centerpiece photo.  Watch for a sneak peek of that coming soon to a sofa near you. Until then, only a glimpse is shown here of Lilliana’s treasures!

All Lilliana Design pieces are available on www.kikidollswimwear.com   Prices on request.

Aside from the obvious–losing those diamond studs, your mother’s (borrowed) Cartier Tank, or your fave gold chain/charm combo, savvy beach girls do not wear let alone swim in their jewellery. At least, not wearing the ‘good stuff’! Posiedon and his daughters must have drawers full of all that we have lost in the surf!

That’s where fun and funky ‘throwaway’ adornments come in. Enter the classic shell and coral bracelet, with a dot-dash of coconut bead or, gasp, faux tortoise added for texture. (Kikidoll sheepishly will admit to coveting her grandmother’s chunky 40′s bangles made out of the ‘real deal’. Sorry, turtles.) Nothing sets off a pair of svelte tanned arms or a fab bikini like a great bangle bracelet. And stacked, the more the better.

Plastic can be clever, as well as those amazing Lucite and other polymer resin pieces that make such great cuffs. Studded with some awesome stone slices or architectural shell, they look like wearable art. Kikidoll loves the juxtaposition of the modern man-made materials with the natural elements–coral, stone, lava, wood, and if you are daring, pearl.

When just lolling about in the sand or in the waves rubber makes a smart alternative. Kikidoll made hers in pink and aqua to match, but you can grab Lance Armstrong’s for that shot of yellow and any other number of causes in every shade of the rainbow.

Who doesn’t love the glint of sunlight as it hones in on an object with the bouncey result a ray of sparkly shimmery light cast from the objet de soleil?

Sunlight on the crest of a wave, the shine of your hair, the sheen of your eyes or the glimmer of your sun-licked skin. Deliciosa.

Then there are the shiny accoutrements you can add, the most common being  jewellery and apparel, for more zing.  Nothing says sparkle more than diamonds in the sun. Wear this at the beach with your favorite blingtastic bikini–just don’t surf wearing it!

Now there is even permanent glitter for nails by way of acrylic tips. Have fun with the pale pink or disco ball versions that are subtle but shimmery.

If add-ons aren’t your MO, then just wear it. A jewelled tea, a sequined bikini and the best bling of all, your sparkling smile.

You’re good to shine, you crazy diamond girl!

About Kikidoll
Kikidoll is the eternal beachgirl, and takes her inspiration from the awesome elegance and pristine simplicity of beaches and waves everywhere. She muses on islands, oceans, beaches, shells, flowers, tropical living, travel, design and style, swimming, surfing, her beloved Hawaii nei, the spirit of aloha, iconic symbols and of course the fleeting ‘endless summer’. Most importantly, she frets over what to wear at the beach!
