Surf’s Up, and the winner is…

Zoe Reid of Coventry, England is the winner of a Kikidoll signature printed Aqua Shell string bikini following the contest hosted  in SurfGirl magazine asking for best memories of Hawaii.

Zoe penned this winning entry:

When I think of Hawaii, I think of, beauty, adventure and surfing! I think of beautiful sun kissed people, Gathered on the beach dancing to the sound of a ukele, hibiscus flowers, amazing surf and of amazing endless sunsets with a congregation of siloeted surfers all gathered together to catch some perfect waves. I also think that Hawii of a tranquil place of natures beauty that calms your thaughts clears your mind, be it through surfing or through some other way.

It could not be said better Zoe! Congratulations and look for your parcel in the Royal Mail. And big mahalo and cheers to SurfGirl for promoting this charming homage to our beautiful islands. Aloha!

Stand up paddling has come of age–it now has its own festival! Move over Coachella and Glasto–SUP is here in Hono! Instead of Chucks or Wellies all you need here is barefoot’in the sand fun.

This weekend at Duke Kahanamoku Beach at Fort DeRussy Beach Park in Honolulu, the aficionados of SUP have gathered for a two-day (Saturday and Sunday) festival celebrating the latest sport craze to hit these shores since Hawaii’s unofficial ambassador, the Duke himself put surfing on the map.

Activities will focus on races of course, with demonstrations of the sport as well. Grab a paddle and do battle.

As a special feature at Outrigger on the Reef , surfing icon Gerry Lopez and other Roxy team riders will be on board for an autograph signing session at 6.30PM tonight, followed by an outdoor screening poolside  of the cult film Blue Crush at 8 PM.

With leaks and twits indicating that a sequel to the Crush may be in store, board sports, surf babes and dudes, big wave riding and hello sunshine are back in season.

Who doesn’t love the glint of sunlight as it hones in on an object with the bouncey result a ray of sparkly shimmery light cast from the objet de soleil?

Sunlight on the crest of a wave, the shine of your hair, the sheen of your eyes or the glimmer of your sun-licked skin. Deliciosa.

Then there are the shiny accoutrements you can add, the most common being  jewellery and apparel, for more zing.  Nothing says sparkle more than diamonds in the sun. Wear this at the beach with your favorite blingtastic bikini–just don’t surf wearing it!

Now there is even permanent glitter for nails by way of acrylic tips. Have fun with the pale pink or disco ball versions that are subtle but shimmery.

If add-ons aren’t your MO, then just wear it. A jewelled tea, a sequined bikini and the best bling of all, your sparkling smile.

You’re good to shine, you crazy diamond girl!

Me encanta Surfing Magazine‘s latest preview video of girls acting cute and stuff in the edgiest, rocking-est swimwear for 2010.

Newcomers Mikoh Swimwear and Kikidoll are in good company with more established bikini lines like L*Space, B Swim and Insight.

With its saucy paso doble music background by Joe Arroyo, clips of Spanish fort ruins in Old San Juan, and luscious lovelies sipping Cuba Libres, the national drink of Puerto Rico, we can overlook the intermittent rain in the shoot. After all, swimwear is meant to get wet, claro?

Look for this special issue on stands 2 March.

Ah, the mid-winter blues. Colds, and flu, woolly sweaters and roiling dark grey skies.

But wait! A ray of sunshiney, salt-drenched, sandy bottomed sea side hope glimmers.

Surfing Magazine’s latest April issue, just out, has 9 glorious girl-filled pages of leaked sneak peek photos taken from behind the scenes of the making of its special Swim Issue, on stands 2 March. Behind the Tan Lines outtakes.

From its cover: ‘Hawaii: this is a {love} letter’, to the shoot in Malibu and Vieques, Puerto Rico, the crew of beach girl lovelies and talented photographer Lauren Ward snapped away with the latest bikinis and suits from hot new 2010 swim collections.

Kikidoll was featured in the glossy, page 106  and on its video.

About Kikidoll
Kikidoll is the eternal beachgirl, and takes her inspiration from the awesome elegance and pristine simplicity of beaches and waves everywhere. She muses on islands, oceans, beaches, shells, flowers, tropical living, travel, design and style, swimming, surfing, her beloved Hawaii nei, the spirit of aloha, iconic symbols and of course the fleeting ‘endless summer’. Most importantly, she frets over what to wear at the beach!
